Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What are the benefits to my Company of participating
in the IRIS database system?
A: Participating in IRIS will provide your company with access to a comprehensive
incident database system and a range of trend analysis reports and graphs. This
includes the ability to benchmark your performance against the industry. By participating
you will also be making a valuable contribution to future injury prevention analysis
and safety improvement initiatives.
Q: What if my Company already has an incident database?
A: You will be able to export data files into the IRIS system from your existing
database, thereby removing the need for double entry. This means you will easily
be able to get all the benefits of the IRIS system with minimal data manipulation.
Q: Can I enter data directly into the IRIS system?
A: Yes, you can either enter you data on an individual incident basis or export
blocks of data from existing databases.
Q: Can I use the IRIS system as my one and only incident
database?
A: Yes, it has been designed to be used as a Company’s one and only database, no
matter what size of company, or as a specialist comparative database if a Company
already has its own incident database.
Q: Can other Companies identify my Companies level of
performance?
A: No, the database is configured in such a way that you will only be able to identify
and access your own data. All other Companies data will be combined as the "industry
average" against which your own Companies data can be compared.
Q: What Reports will the system generate?
A: The system currently generates a number of standard reports outlining Key H&S
Performance Indicators for your Company and allows these to be benchmarked against
the Industry Average.
Q: Can I look at other Companies data for benchmarking
purposes?
A: Yes, but only with the agreement of the member Companies.
Q: Can I create reports to suit my company's specific
reporting needs?
A: Yes, an Export facility allows you to extract your own or industry data from
the database for analysis. You have control over the fields selected.
Q: Who should I contact if I want more information or
‘troubleshooting’ support?
A: There is an IRIS Reference Manual available as a pdf document on the web site,
and you can also contact application manager, Christine Dodunski on
